Even the 4pm monsoon couldn't dampen the spirits of the competitors for last night's events. By the 7pm start the roads were dry and the temperature had soared to a balmy 9C.
The over 55s event set off at a cracking pace with Jim Golden stringing out the bunch for the first two or three miles. The next lap saw a number of speculative attacks which eventually led to a regrouping of the pack.
Towards the end of Lap 2 Alan Kemp and Phil Rose launched themselves out of the Yellow Broom corner to be joined over the following mile or so by Paul Mason, Graham Weigh and Nigel Harrop.
This group of five initially hovered off the front of the chasing bunch before beginning to work together efficiently, moving steadily and then quickly away from the pursuers.
At the finish two laps later, the lead was significant and the sprint was won by Kemp with Weigh, Rose, Harrop and Mason in that order.
Steve Horsey led home the chasing pack for 6th place.
