Race With - The North Midlands Road Race League

Posted 16 June 2018

The North Midlands Road Race League (NMRRL) has been providing a series of evening road races for riders from the North Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, and South Yorkshire areas since 1978, and hence is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this year. In 2018, there are a total of 15 events, alternating on 3 different circuits, starting on the first Thursday in May running straight through into August.

The series is open to all TLI Cycling members, entrants having to enter the entire series. The riders can then race in 10 of the events and commit to marshalling in a further 3.

Originally conceived as a series of handicap races, the NMRRL events are now organised in the classic TLI Cycling format whereby the series entrants are divided into 3 groups based upon age with maximum of 50 riders in each group. Each evening 2 groups race with the third group marshalling. Within each group there is an overall winner with prizes also awarded to the top 10 in each group and to the best rider in each age category in each group.

The series coordinator is Martin Ellis, secretary of the NMRRL since 1993. The series has also attracted sponsorship by Alan Hamshaw of Bikeboxalan for over 10 years
